It is with mixed emotions that we announce the retirement of David Callanan, MD, from Texas Retina Associates effective June 30, 2022. He has been caring for patients at our practice since 1993 and was the first full-time physician in our Arlington office as well as our first physician who was fellowship-trained in uveitis.
“I was honored to join the premier retina group in North Texas nearly 30 years ago, and it has been a true privilege and pleasure caring for so many patients over the years,” expressed Dr. Callanan.
A driving force behind Texas Retina Associates’ research efforts, Dr. Callanan served as a principal investigator for numerous clinical trials throughout his career and plans to continue to work on new treatments to enhance vision for patients with retinal diseases even after his retirement from medical practice.
“Dr. Callanan’s unwavering dedication to his patients combined with his passion for ongoing research to identify new sight-saving treatments has been essential to our practice for nearly three decades,” said Texas Retina Associates CEO Jeff Brockette. “He will be truly missed, but I’m sure his ongoing research efforts will continue to positively impact our patients for many years to come.”
During his time at Texas Retina Associates, Dr. Callanan earned the trust and respect of his physician partners as well.
“Dr. Callanan has been integral to the success we have enjoyed at Texas Retina for the past 30 years,” shared Wayne A. Solley, MD. “Through the expansion of the practice, the founding of a surgery center, and establishing many of our clinical trials, Dave has been a phenomenal physician leader and an unwavering friend and mentor. We wish him the best in his retirement years, and we know he will be a blessing to all those fortunate enough to cross his path.
